Obituary:
Earl Lee Small, Jr., 57 of St. Croix USVI perished in an aircraft accident near Dryden, New York on Thursday, October 16, 2008. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 2008 at McEachern United Methodist Church, Powder Springs, Georgia 30127 with the Rev. Dr. Jim Higgins and Rev. Jerry McCurdy officiating. This new age “Sky King” who was the owner of the Flying S Aviation in Villa Rica, Georgia held a lifelong passion for aviation. He was a multi-type rated pilot, who loved collecting and flying vintage planes. Earl was well known in the Harley-Davison and Honda motorcycle world’s with dealership in Marietta and Cartersville, Georgia and Columbia, South Carolina. He was always eager and grateful to participate in philanthropic works and fund raising efforts for many organizations. Earl had been fighting esophageal cancer since June of 2007. The cancer never got a grasp on his spirit or his enthusiasm for life, proving to be an inspiration for all friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Rhonda Rhode Small; their two sons, Marshall and Mitchell; his parents, Earl and Sybil Small, parents-in-law, Marshall and Vi Rhode, two sisters, Virginia (Ginny) Small Morrison and husband Mark of Jacksonville, FL; Margaret (Peggy) Small of Villa Rica, sister-in-law Marsha Rhode Helland and husband Robert of Racine, WI; brother-in-law Ryan Rhode. He was a loving and jovial uncle to his three nieces and three nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society-Cobb County Unit, 1825 Barrett Lakes Blvd., Kennesaw, GA 30144 for Esophageal Cancer Research or the EAA Young Eagles PO Box 3086, Oshkosh WI 53903-3086 or McEachern United Methodist Church 4075 Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA 30127.
