Barbara C. McCormick Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barbara C. McCormick went to be with God on March 27th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones. Barbara was born in Drexel Hill, PA to Joseph K. Clark and Elizabeth F. Clark (nee Worrell) on April 8, 1941. Her family moved to Miami, FL when she was very young, but she spent most of her life in Ormond Beach, FL. Barbara was married for 45 years to Richard (Dick) D. McCormick who preceded her in death. Barbara’s life was centered around her love for her family, friends and church. She practiced loving acceptance of all who came into her sphere, believed there was good in everyone and always found it. This included her children’s friends, boyfriends and girlfriends when they were young. She maintained many of these friendships long after her children moved on to other relationships and many of them considered her their second mom. Involvement in her church was something she cherished from a very early age and was a theme throughout her life. Helping those in need was her calling. She served as the church secretary at Grace Lutheran Church for many years. One of her passions was the group at her church which made quilts that were sent to those in need both locally and worldwide. Barbara enjoyed a love of music. In addition to her participation as a long-time member of the choir, she loved Jazz and Rock and Roll. In the last few years, she fell in love with the guitar playing of blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa. It was a joy to see her excitement rise any time she heard him sing and play. She loved Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck and Oscar Peterson among many others. Living near the ocean gave Barbara great joy. Fishing from the beach with her family and taking walks along the shore were among her favorite activities. She loved the Sea turtles that seasonally came ashore to lay their eggs. In her family she wanted harmony. She was always the one trying to help mend any discord amongst family members. She was very short on judgement and long on understanding, very hard to anger and quick to forgive. She loved her grandchildren dearly. She knew how to listen and respond with love. She will be deeply missed. Barbara is survived by her son Jeffrey Hocker (Lynn), daughter Mari Owen (Eric), son Kenneth McCormick, son Keith McCormick (Emily) and 4 grandchildren: Neil Owen, Dain Owen, Maryellen McCormick and Margaret McCormick. A memorial service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 338 Ocean Shore Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32176 on April 10, 2021 at 10 am. The Family asks that in lieu of flowers please consider donating to the church in memorial to Barbara.
