Charles Marshal Monroe

Charles Marshal Monroe, 88, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2021, at his home in Marietta, Georgia. He was born and raised in Laurel Hill, NC, to parents Marshall and Gertrude Monroe. After serving with the Army in the Korean War, he earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Indiana Tech University in 1959. He worked for Boeing Aircraft for 2 years before beginning a long career with Lockheed Martin from 1961 to 1998 as a Professional Engineer with the State of Georgia. He was married to Jo Ann G. Monroe for 70 years. They had two sons who preceded him in death, Charles Marcus in 1998, and Robert Gibson, in 2018. He leaves his wife Jo Ann, brother, James Monroe, two grandchildren, Chris, and Lauren, as well as nieces and nephews. Charles was a humble and giving man who was devoted to his family and his faith. He was a band parent as well as a sports coach for Mark, Robert, and Chris. He enjoyed woodworking and country music, especially Charlie Pride and Bill Monroe. He treasured his many scuba diving trips with Shepherd Center as a certified scuba assistant for the handicapped. He was a long-time, active member of Marietta First United Methodist Church and the JOY Sunday School Class. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
