Charles Embree Posey

April 9, 1934 - May 9, 2022

Charles E. Posey, 88, of Marietta joined our Lord and Savior on May 9, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Corfee Posey and parents Hugh Dorsey and Ophie Posey. He is survived by his children: Merrisa P. Folmar (Frank), Felicia A. Kitts (Grant), Gavin H. Posey, and Theresa C. Posey, his grandchildren: Nathan Charles Kitts and Anna Wylie Kitts, his brothers: Jerry H. Posey (Martha), Kenneth H. Posey (Gina), Harry D. Posey (Kate), and other extended family. Charles was born April 9th 1934 near Sales City, Georgia. The family moved to Haines City, Florida in 1940 where Charles graduated from Haines City High School in 1951. He was the Senior Class President, Valedictorian, and voted Most-Likely to Succeed. At the University of Florida, he was a Phi Delta Theta member and graduated with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree in 1956. While also working part-time for the University Food Service to defray college expenses he met his future wife, Dorothy, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Design degree. They were the first in their respective families to obtain college degrees. They married in 1956 and began the family they dreamed of. Charles was employed by Lockheed Martin through 2001 in multiple capacities working in Thermo Dynamics and Environmental Propulsion on the JetStar, C130, C141, and C5 programs. He was the recipient of a NASA Group Achievement Award for his work on the JetStar Prop Fan Flight Test Team. He was also Department Manager of Propulsion, Thermodynamics, and Acoustic on the C5B and C-130J. While at Lockheed, Charles was also a member of the US Air Force Reserves from 1957 to 1965. Charles attended the First Baptist Church of Haines City, Florida where he accepted Christ as a teenager and was baptized. Charles and Dorothy moved to Marietta in 1962 and became active members of the Faith Lutheran Church. Charles served as a member and Chairman of the Trustees putting his considerable skills to work to help make improvements for the Church and School and even learned to play guitar for the Church folk services. Charles’ hobbies included building furniture and working with Dorothy in their yard. Together, they built a beautiful home and gardens. Charles built furniture for his young children and later designed and built various improvements to his own and family’s homes. Charles was also an avid reader of novels by favorite authors as diverse as Jack London to John Grisham and including the tomes by James Michener. Charles was a loving husband and father and spent his life taking care of those around him. His generous, loving nature and quick wit will be missed by all that knew him. Funeral services will be held 10 am Saturday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home www.mayeswarddobbins.com. Interment will be in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday 4pm-6m at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Must Ministries of Cobb County Georgia.
