Delores Lively “Bumba” Bowen (89) of Marietta, Georgia passed away peacefully into the arms of her Lord, Jesus Christ, on Sunday evening, May 30, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Bowen (10/2012) to whom she was married for 61 years (December 31, 1950.) Delores was born on September 3, 1931, in Rome, Georgia to Robert Burton “R.B.” and Lillian Hannah Lively. She was the oldest of four children. Her sisters, Frances and Marie also preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, Robert B. “Bobby” Lively (wife Zell) of Rome, Georgia. She is also survived by two daughters and a son: Pamela Bowen Jenkins (husband Wayne) of Newnan, Georgia; Elise Bowen Goldstein (husband Philip) of Marietta, Georgia; and Mark G. Bowen (wife Joy) of Ball Ground, Georgia. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Patrick Jenkins (wife Carrie with Nathan, Maggie and Amy) of Canton, Georgia; Shannon Jenkins McDaniel (husband Donnie with Mackenna, Katie, T.J., Bethany and Christian) of Charleston, South Carolina; J. Andrew Jenkins (wife Candice with Caroline, Davis, and Charlotte) of Cumming, Georgia; Joseph Goldstein of Marietta, Georgia; and David Goldstein of Marietta, Georgia; Cindy Sparks (with Audrey and Peyton) of Canton, Georgia; David Wright (wife Angie with Lucy ) of Jasper, Georgia; and Melinda Tart (husband Kevin with Mila and Madison) of Kennesaw, Georgia; along with multiple nieces and nephews. Delores and Jack moved from Rome to Marietta in 1960 and lived for 53 years at Regina Drive in East Marietta. They were long-time members of Eastside Baptist Church, Marietta. Georgia. She also enjoyed being a part of the famous “Lunch Bunch.” Delores had a long career in banking beginning with National City Bank in Rome, Georgia and including First National Bank of Cobb County, Marietta Federal Savings and Loan, Georgia Federal Bank, and the Federal Employees Credit Union. Delores was also a licensed Real Estate Agent in Georgia. She and Jack loved to travel and were long-time members of the Norwega Sam Travel Club of Calhoun, Georgia after Jack retired from 38 years at Lockheed Georgia Corporation, and they purchased their first motor home in 1987. Delores enjoyed traveling and cruising the world. From 2014 to 2017 she lived in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, before returning finally to Marietta. Delores never met a stranger, including two former United States Presidents: Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter. She absolutely loved cooking, celebrating Christmas and was the happiest spending time with her extended family. No one ever left her house hungry. Delores received her treasured name of “Bumba” while playing with her first grandchild (Patrick) who could not pronounce “bowling ball.” Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church Street, Marietta, GA, is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at 1:00pm, on Thursday, June 3, followed by a memorial service at 2:00pm with Dr. J. Wayne Jenkins officiating. Interment will be at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta, GA immediately following the service.
