Dolores Teresa Trombatore Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On May 12, 2022, Dolores "Dee Dee" Trombatore, age 89, a resident of Marietta, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord. Born on September 22, 1932 in the Bronx, New York, Dolores was the third of four children born to Charles and Martha Anthony. As a teenager, Dolores discovered she had a gift for languages and dreamed of one day becoming an interpreter at the United Nations. After graduating from Dewitt Clinton High School, her best friend introduced her to Charles Salvatore Trombatore, also from the Bronx. They fell in love, married, and went on to have four children together. In 1963, they purchased a house in Roosevelt, New York, and it was there that Dolores established a lifetime friendship with her neighbor and favorite running buddy, Janet Hill. After retiring from working at Bloomingdale’s department store in Garden City, New York, Dolores relocated to Barbados, where she enjoyed many happy years of fun in the sun with her older, and much beloved sister, Edith (Betty) Dunn. In 2010, Dolores moved to Georgia to spend her remaining golden years watching her grandchildren grow up and thrive while she nurtured them with love, attention, and the good advice only a Grandma, or as she was known, a “Gangy,” could provide. While in Marietta, Dolores was blessed to have the magnificent Gillespie DeMund as her BFF and Skip-Bo partner. Gillie’s grandchildren also found a “Gangy” in Dolores. Dolores was a wonderful mother, aunt, and grandmother. She doted on her family and hosted many of the holiday gatherings. A natural born detective, Dolores’ innate curi-osity, quick wit, and her uncanny ability to find out information made her the go to per-son if you wanted to hear the latest family news. If not for her thoughtful reminders, many a birthday would have been missed! One of Dolores’ most remarkable and admirable qualities was the way in which she dealt with adversity. When faced with bad news or a setback, she would take a moment to feel what anyone would naturally feel when dealing with an unwelcome circum-stance. But, she would quickly move on to do what needed to be done with extraordi-nary grace and awe inspiring courage. Dolores loved watching TV court shows, having a vegetable garden, gospel music, Mary Higgins Clark books, political cable talk shows, her two adorable little dogs, Pierre and GiGi, and last but not least, she immensely enjoyed going to the casino and play-ing the slots! Dolores had a fantastic sense of humor and enjoyed making you laugh, particularly when she found a new "Papi.” Dolores is survived by her four children: Cherie (James) Willoughby, Melodie DeMund, mother of Kerel, Jeremy, Kami and Kira DeMund, Charles (Nanette Weeks) Trombatore and Stacy Trombatore, mother of Durann, Kayla and D’Anthony Dungee. She was “Aunt Doe Doe” to Desiree Dunn-Crichlow, Duron Crichlow, Crystal Sutherland; Robin Dunn; Greta Dunn, Argentina Guerro; Sae’ed (Rasheedah Todman) Dunn, Kejuan Dunn, Eesaa Abdur Rahman, Musaa Dunn, Jibreel Dunn and Tracey Peterson Hanton (Kejuan's Mom). Dolores was “Big Cousin” to Charles A. (Maggie) Tolbert, Jay (Ann Mortimore) Tolbert, Charles Tolbert, Tess (Stephen Canales) Tolbert, Kaya Tolbert and Isabelle. Her much loved extended family includes Phillip DeMund, Renee DeMund-West, Virginia, Marie, Khaliph, Mariela, Allegra, Sonjii, Hassan, Chris, Norma, Jamal, Yanick, Sulieman, Miniminyha, Ryan, and other members of the West, Warren, and Lopez family.
