Dorothy Harrell Brown

October 24, 1925 - February 17, 2021

Dorothy Harrell Brown passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 after an extended illness. She was born on October 24, 1925 to Elizabeth Pitchford and Evan Emmitt Harrell. She was the youngest of seven children. She is predeceased by her husband, Horace Brown and Sisters, Minnie Siedel, Jo McKinney, Ina Morse, Bernice Appling and two brothers in childhood. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Brown Renfrow of Marietta; three grandchildren, Alyson Bailey, Charleston, SC; Meghan Renfrow, Canton, GA; Will Renfrow, Longs, SC; two great grandsons; brothers and sister-in-law’s, Reid Brown, Betty Parsons and Bradley Brown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy moved to Marietta in 1945 to work for Ed McKinney as a bookkeeper. It was here she met and married Horace after he returned from WWII. They raised their small family in Marietta and faithfully served at Marietta First Baptist Church in Sunday School, Deacons Ministries and many committees together. Later she worked for 17 years as a volunteer coordinator at Kennestone hospital. After Horace’s death in 2003 she continued to volunteer at the church in English School and with The Cup of Kindness of Marietta First Baptist Church. Dorothy was creative and enjoyed gardening, doing crafts and she was an excellent seamstress. She was known for her hospitality and love for all people. She was always willing to help others in any way she could and was very generous. She cherished friendships and her family, and she loved to travel. For the last years she resided at The Legacy Ridge Community in Woodstock. A special thanks to all the staff members there who helped care for her. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 20th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Marietta First Baptist Church, 148 Church Street Marietta, GA. 30060.
