Elizabeth "Bessie" Coombs Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Elizabeth Marie Leite-Coombs affectionately called “Madear” amongst family and friends was 83 years old. She passed at her home surrounded by her two remaining children on September 29, 2021. Elizabeth was the 7th child of Noe and Marie Leite. Elizabeth was born in Harlem hospital on January 4th, 1938. She lived in Harlem the first 9 years of her life then moved to Jamaica Queens. Elizabeth attended Presentation Catholic School and Jamaica High School. She then attended beauty and barber college until she graduated and became a Master Barber. In 1986 Elizabeth married R. Earl Coombs. Eventually retiring from barbering to raise her family. In 1992, Elizabeth relocated to Smyrna, GA, then to Austell, GA, where she bought a house and settled down. Switching careers, she became a home health care aide and raised two of her grandchildren as well as looked after her brother and mother until their passing’s. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Noe and Marie Leite; her siblings, Tony, Herman, Richard, Tanya, Zef, Al, and Margie; her children, Deborah and Kelley; nieces, Lolly, Lisa, Pookie, Joanne, and Sherrie; nephew, Khalil She is survived by her siblings, Raymond, Theresa, and Bernadette; children, Tracy and Chris; nieces and nephews, Anjirlic, Noah, Regina, Tony, Al, Mario, Shaun, Eric, Cherai, Yma, Alima, Gjasi, David, and Dion; numerous great and great-great- nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Hasaan, Nene, Tiffany, Khorrie, Bobbi, Khadira, and Kash; great-grandchildren, Khalid, Akyah, Rasheed, Josh, Yazmeen, Hasaan, Kayne, Arianna, Avi, Aniyah, Khelis, Nyeir. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 2 o’clock at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel with Deacon Bruce Reed officiating. A repast will follow the funeral service. A visitation will be held between the hours of 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel.
