Emma Agabegova Akopov Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Emma Agabegova was born on October 23, 1931 in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia (then a part of the USSR) to parents Gerasim Agabekov and Alexandra Losyakova. After graduating from high school cum laude in 1948 she continued her studies at the Agricultural University of Georgia from where she obtained the degree of agricultural engineer. For the next 37 years she had a professional career at a large manufacturing factory where she rose from an entry level engineering position to Assistant Chief Technology officer and retired in 1990 after a successful and fulfilling career. However, Emma’s true calling in life was her family. She was a devoted mother to her two sons and helped rear five grandchildren. In 1993, Emma and her husband Alexander Akopov emigrated to the US following their two sons and their families in order to remain close to them. The ensuing 29 years were filled with Emma’s complete dedication to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren – there had never been a helper with a happier heart. She lived for her family and a day without offering a helping hand was a wasted day for her. She loved America and was extremely thankful to this country for giving her family opportunity to enjoy many freedoms and blessings of daily life she was deprived of in her earlier years. Emma grew to know the Lord, and her belief in Jesus as her Savior was part of her life. In her spare time Emma enjoyed reading suspense novels, playing chess, listening to classical music, traveling, and eating out. She was an excellent cook, although we are not sure if she enjoyed cooking as much as she led us to believe she did. In her passing Emma was preceded by her parents, brother Michael Agabekov, and sister Zina Agabekova. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Alexander Akopov; sons and their wives Yuri Markevitch and Galina Muchaidze, and Val and Ashley Akopov; grandchildren David Markevitch and Kathy Akopov Guillory, and their spouses Irene Belik and Chris Guillory; Anna Akopov, Henry Akopov, and Andrew Akopov; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Amy Markevitch, Emma and Eleanor Guillory; as well as nephews Alexander Agabekov and Dmitri Drozdov.
