Gysbert Case Bergman

December 3, 1961 - April 24, 2022

On Sunday, April 24, 2022, Gysbert Case Bergman, went to be with the Lord at the age of 60, after an 18 month battle with Glioblastoma. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Bergman, his two children, TJ and Brie Bergman, his mother, Hendrikien Karavitch, and his siblings, Eelco and Ingrid Bergman. A visitation will be held Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta Square from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Transfiguration Catholic Church at 2:30pm. Case was born December 3, 1961 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He moved to New York in 1968, where he met his love of 37 years, Ellen Dunn, in 1979. They married in 1985 and moved to Texas a few days later for Case’s job with Delta Airlines, where they were blessed with two wonderful children. Delta then took our family to Georgia, where we have built a life filled with love, laughter, family and friends ever since. Case is one of the rare few in this world who truly loved his job. Case celebrated 41 years with Delta this year, and had hoped for many more. He started at the bottom, working on the ramp fresh out of high school at JFK airport. Over the next 41 years, he worked hard to advance his career with Delta, being promoted to Supervisor of the Ramp, to Crew Scheduling, to Crew Tracking, and finally his dream position of Flight Control. He had a passion for aviation, and Delta brought him countless friends and many adventures for his family. In addition, Case had an unmatched passion for classic rock, attending the concerts of Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden, Kings of Leon at Red Rocks Amphitheater, Foo Fighters in Dublin, Pink Floyd during the Wall Tour, and the list goes on. He knew every lyric to every song, the name of every band member, and the background behind every album. But Case’s biggest passion in life was his family, and he was a sucker for his children. He coached every baseball team, went door-to-door selling Girl Scout cookies, attended every Father-Daughter dance, took on second and third jobs to pay for private school. He attended every ballet recital and school play, and saved up for trips to Disney World and Hilton Head Island. He said yes to every dog, hamster, lizard and fish. Alongside Ellen, he made innumerable sacrifices for his family, and ensured his children felt loved each and every day. Case will be fondly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Rachael; his siblings-in-law, Kathleen, Michael, Charles, Nadine, Carol and Frans; his nephews, Christian, Caleb, Liam, Logan, Kieran and Stijn; and his nieces, Jesse, Hayley and Imke. Case’s battle with Glioblastoma was exhausting, emotional, and unfair. But it brought out the best side of him – not once did he complain. From day one he handled this battle with grace and bravery. We take comfort in knowing he had a beautiful Heavenly reunion with his stepfather, Vincent Karavitch, his hero. Our lives will never be the same without Case, and we will always miss him. Being loved by him was the biggest blessing. He fought long and hard, and now he rests. Case has made his Final Landing. Love, Ellen, TJ and Brie In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Case's name to: Piedmont Atlanta Hospital (ORR Brain Tumor Fund) give.piedmont.org
