Harry Sellers Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Harry Sellers, age 98, of Marietta passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Harry was born April 14, 1924 in Appling County to the late John Millinder Sellers and the late Helen Branch Sellers. He was a dedicated member and singer/song leader of St. Andrew's United Methodist Church for many years. Harry enjoyed cooking & gardening, but enjoyed hunting quail & dancing most of all. Harry was also an exceptional artist/illustrator with an extraordinary knack for detail whether he was working on marble, paper or canvas, with pencils, pastels or paints. Through the years Harry has created designs for such famous personalities as the entertainer Jackie Gleason and the noted basketball coach Adolph Rupp. Harry was preceded in death by his son, Andy; his wife of 50 years, Mary; daughter, Sandy Fineman; sisters, Brice Doke, Luna Mack and Nell Tuten; brothers Wade Sellers, Roland Sellers, Willard "Bill" Sellers & Dave Sellers; and his second wife, of 22 years, Norma Parker Sellers. While growing up on a farm in Baxley, Georgia, his love of nature and hunting was born, as well as his love of drawing and designing. His unique pencil style and his eye for detail, depict someone who "has been there". For thirty-seven years of his career, Harry's talents developed as he created designs for marble memorials. Over twenty of those years were spent as Chief Designer for Georgia Marble in Tate, Georgia and before that he was a designer at McNeel Marble Works in Marietta. However, marble is not the only medium on which his talents lie. His creative ability has enabled him to share on paper what he knows and loves. After his retirement in 1989 from Georgia Marble, Harry devoted much of his time creating pencils of birds and animals as he knew them best, in the wild. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Mayes Ward Dobbins Marietta Chapel with Steve Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm at Mayes Ward Dobbins.
