Inez S. Long Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Inez S. Long of Marietta, GA passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2021. She was one of Cobb County’s few remaining World War II veterans. Born Minnie Inez Scurry on January 30, 1921, in the South Georgia town of McRae. After High School she followed in her sister’s footsteps and graduated as a Registered Nurse from Emory Crawford Long Hospital. She was an industrial nurse in a Savannah shipyard until enlisting in the Army Nurse Corps in 1943. Inez went through basic training in Greensboro, NC and Santa Ana, CA. She was stationed in Yuma, AZ where she met her husband, Ed “Bud” Long. She was passionate about life and family. Best remembered as a loving wife, mom, and grandmother. Inez is predeceased by her husband of 72 years; daughter, Georgia Carol Long Smith; and grandson, Travis Smith. She is survived by son, Edward E Long; grandchildren, Allison Skelton and John Smith; greatgrandchildren, John Jr, Lindsey and Garrison Smith along with great-great grandchild, Gunner Smith. Visitation is Friday, November 5th from 5-7pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta with a Graveside Service on Saturday, November 6th at 11am at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice in her honor.
