Joan Marie Hunter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Joan Marie Hunter, 75, of Marietta, Georgia passed away January 2, 2022. Joan was born in Washington, D.C. and spent her childhood/teenage years there before moving to Georgia in 1968. Joan was a long-time member of Transfiguration Catholic Church, Marietta. She worked at the Atlanta Veterans Hospital, but her passion was caring for children, especially special needs children. She worked as a personal Nanny for almost 8 years and other areas of childcare for many years. She volunteered for many groups/projects at the church and was very involved with the Faith and Light Organization which supported special needs children and their families. Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Julia Downs, Maryland and her sister, Linda Downs. She is survived by her son, Richard Palmer and his wife, Sandee Fair-Palmer and her daughter, Angela Palmer. Funeral Services will be held at 2:15 p.m. on January 15, 2022, at Transfiguration Catholic Church, Marietta. Eulogy at 2:15, Mass at 2:30...Reception to follow service in Bishop Hall upstairs. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel.
