January 26, 1934 - April 27, 2021
Joseph Edward Cutcliff Jr. of Kennesaw, GA passed away peacefully at his home this past Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Husband of Marilyn, father of Lyn, Joy, Pamela, and Dave, with 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren who knew him as their “Poppy”. Joe is part of a large family of Cutcliffs, many from the AL, TN, FL and GA areas. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 63 years. Joe was born in Oklahoma City, OK on January 27th, 1934 and the family moved to Birmingham, AL during elementary school. Joe graduated from John Carroll High School. His mother Ida, father Joe Sr., brother Jimmy, and two sisters Carolyn and Mary Jo taught him the value of a close family. He played highschool baseball and football and loved to act, sing, and play the banjo. In college at Auburn University, Joe was part of a singing octet. He graduated from Auburn, and went into the US Army. He then started a career as a purchasing agent at Lockheed Martin in Marietta, Ga. buying parts around the world for the C5A and C130 planes and retired after 43 years. He met and married the love of his life, Marilyn Davis, from Port Arthur, TX on July 19, 1958. They had 4 children, and he worked hard to provide for them a stable, but fun life, taking them on family trips, putting them through college, attending their weddings, and raising them as good Christian people. In the past few years, Alzheimers started it’s progression, but he always remembered and loved being with his family. He sang to Marilyn every morning “I’ll Always Be Loving You” or “You Were Meant For Me”, and kept his witty, funny self, making the children giggle. Joe spent his last week at his home in Kennesaw with his family and friends, who were able to say goodbye. All that knew him said what a ”kind, gentle, patient and great man he was” and that he definitely will go the Lord as an Angel. Joe was greeted at Heaven’s gates by his mother, father, brother Jimmy, and sister Mary Jo. Surviving sister Carolyn Nicholl (Mike) resides in Nashville, TN. Additional survivors include his beautiful wife of 63 years, Marilyn of Kennesaw, GA; daughter Lyn Riley (Bob) of Dade City, FL; daughter Joy Crump (John) of Kennesaw, GA; daughter Pamela White of Ballground, GA; son Dave Cutcliff (Julie) of Cornelius, NC. Nine grandchildren: Jonathan Crump (Ashley); Brett Kibbey (Lisa); Bonnie Fontaine; Daniel Crump; Melissa Thompson (Brian); Jennifer McKinney (Logan), Alexander Cutcliff, Abigail Cutcliff, and Nicole Morris (Brandon). Family and friends are welcome for the Visitation on Friday , April 30 at Mayes Ward Funeral Home, Marietta, GA from 5-8 pm with a prayer service at 7:30 pm. The funeral service will be on Saturday, May 1st, at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marietta, GA. Burial will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park.
