Katherine Taylor Chalfant Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Katherine Adele Taylor Chalfant of Marietta, Ga. passed away on Friday June 19, 2020. She was born in Lexington, Mississippi on November 17, 1924 and was the eldest daughter with four sisters and the youngest of the family, a brother, who never lacked for attention with all the sisters around. Kay (KK) and Griff (Poppin) were dedicated members of the First Baptist Church of Marietta and had many friends through the years in their Sunday School Class and Wednesday Night Services. You could always count on them to be in the same pew every Sunday with family and friends surrounding them.m KK was devoted to her husband Griff and never seemed to mind his numerous camping weekends as Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 144 for 20 plus years. She was also overly adoring and generous to her three sons – maybe more than they deserved. As Personnel Manager at Rich’s Cobb Center, she gave many young people in Cobb, Marietta and Smyrna their first jobs. She then went on at Rich’s Downtown and later when Rich’s opened stores in other states. Many people fondly remember times at Rich’s and “The Pink Pig”. An avid reader, KK could always be counted on to have read the latest and best books of the day (especially concerning history). We could always go by her house and find out which book would be another great recommendation. She was also very proud of her family heritage and she became a bit of a family tree devotee becoming a member of the DAR and the UDC. Poppin and KK’s house was the meeting place for all the family, including grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends - everyone chipped in on food preparation, but we could always count on KK to “burn the rolls.” The extended family from Mississippi and Virginia were always a priority to Kay and Griff and they made several trips a year to meet up with the family and also friends, Juanelle and Jim Gaskins and Virginia and Joe Hagen. KK is preceded in death by her loving of husband of 70 years, Griff Chalfant, parents G.P. and Essie Mae Taylor, Brother Hugh-Bubba Taylor, Sisters Martha (Buck) Reeves, Luree (James) Nash, Doug Hogge, and Earl Davidson. She is survived by Sisters Patricia Hogge and Shirley Davidson and sister-in-law Juanita Taylor. She is also survived by sons Grif (Glynda) Chalfant, Steve (Regina) Chalfant and Flip Chalfant; grandchildren Lee Chalfant, Courtney Chalfant, Cali Chalfant and Lili Chalfant and great grandchildren, Eli, Holden, J.D., Tessa and Griffin Chalfant and many nieces and nephews. We will all miss her loving smile and positive attitude. Arrangements are being made by Mayes Ward and a service will be held with her sisters and others at the family cemetery in Lexington, Mississippi. We would like to thank Marlene Graham and the other caregivers at Dayes Personal Care Home for taking such good care of KK. Thoughts and prayers will be greatly appreciated as well as donations in her honor to First Baptist Church of Marietta.
