November 8, 1940 - February 23, 2021
Linda Pelham Davis, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, died peacefully at home in Marietta on February 23, 2021. Linda was born at the family home in Haleburg, Alabama, on November 08, 1940. She was the oldest of four children, and always cared for and organized her younger siblings. She was a stellar student at Haleburg School and Headland High, and graduated from the latter as salutatorian in 1958. Linda loved books, and horses, interests that were carried through her life. She moved to Atlanta to work at the Emory University School of Nursing, boarded with Mrs. Davis on Springdale Road in Druid Hills, and met there the love of her life, a dashing Navy Private, Laurie C. Davis. Laurie and Linda wed in 1964 and made their home in Richmond, VA, where two years later, Debbie their only child was born. After living in Macon, GA, whilst Laurie studied law at Mercer University, the two made their home in Marietta, GA. God and family were her priorities, and she focused on church and community endeavors while at Hollydale Methodist Church and Roswell Street Baptist Church. She put her talents to work as the office manager at Cobb Orthopedics and as assistant to the Bureau Chief of ABC News in Atlanta. She later enjoyed starting her own business acquiring and reselling antiques. Linda was known as a gracious hostess, continuously opening her home to family and friends for visits. In retirement, Linda was devoted to her grandchildren and attended many school and sporting events. She patiently shared her love of reading, gardening, baking, and shopping for antiques with the grandchildren. Linda’s love of gardening manifested itself in their beautiful gardens in Canton, GA, where the family spent countless hours of enjoyment. Linda and Laurie were a team in the garden, as through life. Married 56 years, they were inseparable and still as devoted as ever in her last days. Linda is survived by her beloved husband Laurie, her daughter Debbie and son-in-law Hix Green, her grandchildren Walker and his wife Julie Benedict Green, and Mattie Green, all of Atlanta. She is also survived by her siblings Diane Knowles of Oakwood, GA, Paula Pelham Grissett of Dothan, AL, Michael and Joan Pelham of Haleburg, AL, and 6 nieces she loved as her own. Linda is predeceased by her parents Margaret Evans Pelham and James Herschel Pelham of Haleburg, AL. A private service will be held at Northside Methodist Church in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Northside Methodist Church, or the charity of your choice.
