Maxie Thomas "Max" Blalock Jr.

August 5, 1949 - July 6, 2020

Maxie Thomas “Max” Blalock of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on Monday, July 6th, 2020, in Marietta. He is the son of Maxie T. Blalock, Sr. and Ruby Lunsford Blalock, both of whom predeceased him. Max was born in Durham, North Carolina, on August 5th, 1949. He was raised in Timberlake, North Carolina, where he attended high school and he attended college at Atlantic Christian College in Wilson, North Carolina. Max began his railroad career with Southern Railway in Raleigh. His first position was switchman and being new, he worked third trick. Subsequently, Max worked as agent in Chocowinity, North Carolina. Max relocated to Atlanta in 1972 and for the rest of his career worked in Norfolk Southern’s System Control Center there. He worked for many years in Car Distribution & Utilization and prior to his retirement in 2003 was responsible for the distribution and utilization of Norfolk Southern’s general use (non- automotive and intermodal) flat car fleet. In 1985, Max wed Jan Winn in Atlanta and to this union two sons were born Max was a strong Christian and a member of Maple Avenue United Methodist Church in Marietta. Max is survived by his wife, Jan; two sons, Thomas (Allison) and Steven; one granddaughter, Elsie Rose Blalock; his brother, Gary (Kris) of Seneca, South Carolina; nieces Aubrey Williams and Adriane Lynn and nephew Jon Blalock and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be extended to The Family of Max Blalock, 465 St. Ann’s Road, Marietta, Georgia 30064-1423.
