January 6, 1947 - December 30, 2021
Patricia Jane (Holden) Mozley passed away peacefully on December 30, 2021. Born January 6, 1947, in Pittsfield, MA, Patty's family moved to Rome, GA when she was 6 years old. Patty graduated from East Rome High School in 1964. She received her B.S. in Education from Shorter College and her Master's Degree from West Georgia University. She moved to Marietta, GA in 1969 when she began teaching 3rd grade at the St. James Academy, now known as The Walker School. During her 43-year tenure at The Walker School, she taught 3rd and 4th grade for 17 years and later served as the Director of Admissions for 26 years until her retirement in 2012. Patty believed strongly that the arts, particularly performing on stage, played a key role in developing and building self-confidence and enhancing a student's overall education. Her work led to what is now an exceptional performing and fine arts program at the Walker School. Hence, the Patty Mozley Studio Theatre was dedicated in her honor for her decades of service and support to the school. Patty was also a dedicated member of the Marietta community. She chaired the Cobb County Theater steering committee, served as chair of the Cobb Youth Leadership, and was on the boards of the Tommy Nobis Center and the Cobb Energy Center Education advisory. She chaired the American Heart Association of Cobby County Ball twice. She was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and Junior Service League of Cobb/Marietta. Patty gave tirelessly of her time to help others. She served as a volunteer at the YWCA Rape Crisis Center, Sunday school teacher, youth advisor, and retreat leader for Marietta First United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. In her retirement, she led multiple mission trips in coordination with Marietta FUMC to Peru and the former Soviet Republic of Georgia where she helped rebuild schools, libraries and taught educational seminars. At the core of Patty’s heart was her profound love of family and friends. She was a gracious hostess and opened her heart and home to all who visited. She loved fresh flowers, culinary arts, music, and traveling. Patty is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bud, Barbara & Bill Holden. She is survived by her former husband and dear friend Johnny Mozley, her brother Pete Holden (Sandy), her nieces Patty Still (Ron), Erin Sinclair (David), nephew Reid Holden, grandnephews and grandnieces Holden, Harrison, Henry, Banks, Kate, and Ava. A celebration of life will be held at Marietta First United Methodist Church at a later date due to the current community Covid status. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Missions Ministry at Marietta First United Methodist Church or the Patrons of the Arts at the Walker School.
