Sandra "Sandy" Lee White Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sandra Lee Dove White (80), of Marietta, Georgia passed away the afternoon of June 10, 2022, surrounded by her family at Kennestone Hospital. Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Sandy was the President of Phi Mu Sorority and a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She married her college sweetheart and best friend Milburn Hugh White in 1963. While Hugh was in the military, they spent a few years in Missouri before settling in Marietta, Georgia. In the 70's, She was the President of the Marietta Junior League and a sustaining member until retirement. This experience laid the groundwork for her years in Healthcare where her motto was " Make a difference in someone's life everyday." Sandy continued her working career as the Director of Volunteer Services for Kennestone Hospital in 1981 and then promoted to Executive Director of the Wellstar Foundation from 1995 to 2007 when she retired. Her efforts brought about hospital reform, gift giving methods, and an increase of community support. More than Twenty-five Million dollars were raised under her direction for the betterment of Wellstar Health System's multiple locations and the communities they serve. Both she and Hugh were avid members of the Marietta Country Club, where they loved golf, dancing, and dining with friends. She was heavily involved with club events and committees, as well as being the President of the LGA association for many years. Her community involvement included the Marietta Chamber of Commerce and a board member of the YWCA in Marietta. Sandy was a selfless and genuine person with a love of philanthropy and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She was a true role model and mentor. Sandy leaves a legacy of compassion, giving and care. In her passing, Sandy is preceded by her parents Ella Lee and Sherman Dove of Knoxville, TN. She is survived by her husband, soul mate and friend of 59 years, Hugh White, her sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Amanda White, Jason and Erin White with grandchildren Meghan, Jordyn, Harrison, Olivia and Ella White. Sandy is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Arlene Dove, sister- in-law Sue Williams, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Kendall and Karen White, then by many nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held this Wednesday, June 22 at 2pm followed by a service at 4pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home on Church Street in Marietta. She will be buried on June 23 at 11am at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
