William P. Holley III
July 11, 1953 - April 28, 2022
William P. Holley III, 68, beloved husband, devoted father and accomplished attorney, passed away peacefully at home in Marietta, Georgia, on April 28, 2022. Born July 11, 1953, a native of Marietta, Bill was a graduate of Wheeler High School, Mercer University, and Atlanta Law School. He was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia Association in June of 1978. A welcomed friend to many and a well-respected member of the legal community, Bill was known for his quick wit, skillful and amusing story-telling and great sense of humor. He was sartorially elegant, seen often in his signature bowtie on the way to the courthouse. One of his favorite quotes was, “What is the most important invention of the 20th century? Duct tape. Take duct tape and wrap it around your fingers before sending off that text message that will haunt you. It works equally well on your mouth.” He is survived by his dear wife of 41 years, Carol Chohaney Holley, and his beloved children, daughter Lauren Holley Mills (TJ), and son Hudson Holley. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Holley (Linda), many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, William P. Holley, Jr. and Mary Eugenia Kyle Holley. Bill was a tireless advocate for every client he served through his 44-year career of practicing divorce, family, criminal and personal injury law. He was a member of the Cobb County Bar Association, The State Bar of Georgia, and was admitted as a member of the Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia, the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia and the Supreme Court of the United States. Along with professional success, he was civic- minded and participated in a variety of community organizations including Marietta Kiwanis, Leadership Cobb, and Ducks Unlimited. He was an annual supporter of the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art’s Chalktoberfest. In his free time, he loved vacationing at the beach, motorcycling, boating, and perfecting his grilling techniques on the Big Green Egg. When not at work, you could often find him discussing the issues of the day at the Workout Anytime Marietta Gym. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 4, at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel, in Marietta, Georgia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bill’s name to the Georgia Center for Child Advocacy (www.georgiacenterforchildadvocacy.org).
