Donald David Dorris, 75, of Powder Springs, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2018. A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 31, 2018 with Rev. J.R. McAliley officiating at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 30, 2018 from the hours of 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel. Donald David Dorris, loving husband and best friend to Carlotta Dorris, was the youngest son of Dalton and Nettie Dorris. He was born and raised in Smyrna, Georgia and attended Osborne High School. Donald is preceded in death by his father, Donald Dorris, his mother, Nettie Chaffin Dorris, and three older brothers, William, Hoyt, and Bobby Dorris. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Carlotta Werbell Dorris, daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, Ashley, Andrew, and Elijah Dykes of Social Circle, daughter, son-in-law, and grandson, Jennifer, Stan, and Nate Pelz of Orlando, Florida, as well three nephews, Jerry Dorris of McDonough, Bryan Dorris of Yorkville, and William “Billy” Dorris of Marietta and a number of great nieces and nephews. Donald was a United States Army veteran who served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. Shortly after his return from service, Donald laid down roots in Powder Springs where he poured his heart into raising “white faced” cows. He spent over 40 years devoted to his passion, and it was clear that he was happiest on his farm in the company of his devoted wife, Carlotta, or atop his tractor in his fields. In addition to his responsibilities on the farm, he worked alongside his brother, Bobby, for Benise-Dowling as a commercial painter in the metropolitan Atlanta area. Donald was a happy man, content with the simple pleasures in life. He never shied away from a day of hard work and was always eager to lend a helping hand to a friend in need. He was happiest outdoors and enjoyed deer hunting and salt-water fishing. In fact, Donald was fortunate to have had the opportunity to enjoy several out of state hunting trips including a special New Mexico mule deer hunt as well as several trips to Nebraska with his nephew, Bryan, where they hunted whitetail deer and pheasant. His love of fishing was shared with his family, and Donald spent many days on the water with his brothers, Hoyt and Bobby, his cousin, Doug Dorris of Powder Springs, his nephews, and many close friends. One of Donald’s greatest pleasures was spending time with his wife at the lake on their property in Weedowee, Alabama. Donald shared special relationships with his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed by all. His loved ones take comfort in knowing that Donald is with his brothers in heaven watching over them awaiting the day they will be together again. Donald’s memory will remain alive in all who love and cherish him. Interment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 1:30 P.M.
