Elizabeth Anne James Elrod

Elizabeth Anne James Elrod passed away peacefully on Saturday May 25, 2024. She was 89. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, G. Donald Elrod and her parents Albert and Eva Mae James. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Maryanne (David) Elliott, granddaughter Blair Elliott, sister, Rosemary Strickland, sister-in-law, Pam Elrod and nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Karen Monse, Ann Munyua and Michele Osnowitz who took care of Elizabeth with such love in her later years. Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Marietta and proud Marietta Blue Devil. She started her working career as an executive secretary for The Coca-Cola Company and later served as secretary and office manager for Watkins Realty and Watkins and Proctor Insurance in Marietta. She served her community volunteering with the Hickory Hills PTA, Cobb Youth Museum, Marietta FUMC, the Root House and the Marietta Welcome Center. Elizabeth loved her family and friends and was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin first of all, and she was well loved in return. Her husband, Don, was her partner in everything and the love of her life. She was a role model and best friend to her daughter. A second mother to her son-in-law. She loved baking to the sounds of Elvis Presley with her granddaughter and antiquing for treasures with her sister. She tried to share her passion for crochet, but none of us had her patience or talent for it. She loved time spent with family and special friends in Flagler Beach, St. Simons, Asheville, and Hawaii, and cherished Sunday mornings in the pews of Marietta FUMC. In her later years, she faced the challenges of aging and dementia with grace – she never complained unless she ran out of her precious Diet Cokes. She always maintained her positive outlook and sense of humor, declaring every day, rain or shine, to be a beautiful day. A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 2, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Marietta First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church parlor before the service from 1pm-2pm.
