Gloria Jackson Clay

Gloria Jackson Clay, age 85, peacefully passed away on September 21, 2023, with her devoted husband, Robert Lee Clay Sr., by her side. Born in Marietta, Georgia, Gloria spent the majority of her life in Cobb County. Gloria was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Powder Springs. Her unwavering faith and love for her church family were evident in everything she did. Over the years, Gloria held various roles in her community such as: bank teller, substitute teacher, After School Program Coordinator at Hollydale Elementary and most importantly, a stay-at-home mom. Gloria is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Lee Clay Sr., and her sons, Robert L. Clay Jr. (Linda) of Marietta and Mark Clay (Heather) of Savannah. She was also a loving grandmother to Olivia Clay Skaar (Wes) of Marietta, Ryan Clay of Atlanta, Will Clay of Augusta, and Lillian Clay of Augusta. Gloria's great-granddaughters, Jade and Baker Skaar of Marietta, brought immense joy to her life. From a young age, Gloria was passionate about riding horses; and in fact had one of her own, Blaze. She was a proud cheerleader and member of the 1956 Marietta High School graduating class. Gloria went on to the University of Georgia before marrying her beloved husband, Bob. In addition, she enjoyed camping and traveling in their motorhome, particularly to Disney World. She loved her grandchildren and great-grand children dearly and attended every one of their sporting events, and sometimes even the practices. On a typical Friday night, you could find her and Bob with their church group fellowshipping and playing card games such as Joker and Chicken Foot. Gloria Jackson Clay will forever be remembered for her love for her family and friends, her thoughtful and generous heart, and her deep commitment to her community and her faith in her Savior and Lord. The family will be receiving friends on Monday, September 25th, from 12:00 o’clock to 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon at Mayes Ward–Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Mike Woods, will begin at 2:00 o’clock, followed by interment at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gloria Clay's memory to the Marietta Schools Foundation 144 Polk Street Marietta, GA 30064. This gesture will honor Gloria's passion for education and her love for her Marietta Community.
