Janet Manner Newman

Janet Manner Newman, 86, of Woodstock, passed away on November 15th, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. She was born on October 5th, 1938, in Plainfield, N. J. to Mr. Charles Louis Manner and Mrs. Margaret Rita (Stoveken) Manner. Ms. Newman moved with her parents and siblings to Marietta, GA in 1947. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church until 2008, when she began attending Transfiguration Catholic Church participating in many social clubs and making long-lasting friendships. She graduated from Sprayberry High School in 1956 and was Miss Sprayberry High School the same year. She graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Education and was a schoolteacher for 25 years in the Cobb County School System, teaching at Bells Ferry Elementary School and Pine Mountain Middle School until her retirement. She enjoyed boating, swimming, and fishing for many years on Lake Allatoona where she and her husband built a cabin in 1960. Many summers were spent entertaining friends and family at the lake. Her hobbies included cooking for her family, friends, and neighbors, reading and doing anything that involved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family members. She was quick-witted, always smiling, a joy to be around and made the simple things in life fun. She loved her cat and made sure he was well-fed with his daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and had his nightly head rub. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Mr. Ray Watson Newman, her parents Mr. & Mrs. Charles & Margaret Manner, Tommy Manner (brother), Richard Manner (brother). She is survived by her son, Christopher Newman (Katrina), daughter, Claire Newman (Jeff Ellixson), grandchildren, Tyler Newman, Wesley Newman & Nathan Newman, brother Charles Manner (Polly), sister-in-law Jane Manner, brother-in-law Alan Barron (Janice), ten nieces, five nephews, thirteen great- nieces and five great-nephews. A funeral mass will take place at Transfiguration Catholic Church on Friday, November 22nd at noon with Monsignor Pat Bishop officiating, followed by a reception at the church. Burial will take place immediately after the service at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and guests at the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Historic Marietta Chapel on Thursday, November 21st from 5 pm to 8 pm.
