John H. Gloss

John Hitlin Gloss, 52, of Kennesaw, GA, died August 9, 2017, of complications from his second heart transplant. He breathed his last breath at Emory Hospital and his next breath in Heaven. John was the youngest of four children born to the late Eugene and Jean Gloss on April 22, 1965, in Gallipolis, OH. His siblings - Linda Gloss (Doug) Fatica, Susan Gloss (Randy) Breech, Eugene (Barb) Gloss survive him but brother Robert died earlier as an infant. John graduated from Gallia Academy in 1983. He attended Ohio University and University of Rio Grande. He received a BS in Computer Science. John served in the 101st Airborne Army out of Ft. Campbell, KY and in Alaska. He was called back to active duty during Desert Storm. He was an avid Civil War buff and enjoyed studying military strategy, artillery and battle sites. John and Marguerite Wells of SC were married in 1999 and the family lived in Kennesaw. An Eagle Scout, John often assisted his stepdaughter Kala and granddaughters Elizabeth and Layla with their Girl Scout badges. Together they studied and photographed their backyard garden and wildlife. The Gloss family often rescued animals and John was instrumental in their latest animal rescue - 5 felines! John worked for Cold Rolled Steel in West Virginia for a short time. He graduated from the North American Aviation School in Conway, SC in 1998. For 18 years, he was employed by Delta airlines, where he wrote the manual for the IFE system, created the parts storage system, and inspected parts for one of the many welding shops at Delta. John and his wife Marguerite were active at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, where he was a deacon and started the Alpha Program, an introduction to Christianity. Since his illness, the Gloss have remained faithful in other ways. 18 nieces and nephews called him Uncle John. A “home going celebration” memorial service will be held August 26, 2017, at 4 pm at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, located 180 Church Street NE in Marietta, GA 30060. Family and friends may visit from 3 pm until the service begins. A special “thank you” to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Emory Hospital Transplant Unit and Mason House.
