John David "Dave" Lenihan

John David “Dave” Lenihan, 76, of Marietta, GA, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, in Marietta, GA. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 11, 2022, with a visitation from 1:00 PM- at 4:00 PM and the service beginning at 4:00 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel with Monsignor Peter Rau officiating. He will be interred at Georgia National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at 12:30 PM. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Linda Lenihan of Marietta, GA; daughter, Erin Lenihan Larkin of Marietta, GA; sisters, Ann Dugan of Decatur, GA & Mary Hicks Munzel & husband Jim of Panama City, FL; granddaughters, Kerrigan Larkin & Gracelyn Larkin of Marietta; and many nephews & nieces. John David Lenihan was born on Tuesday, May 15, 1945, in Batavia, NY to Joseph & Teresa Lenihan. Dave served his country proudly for four years in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971. He married the love of his life Linda Darnell in 1971 and they had fifty wonderful years together. Dave had a personal relationship with God and he and Linda have been members of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 43 years. He received his Specialist Degree in education from West Georgia College and worked in education spanning 30 years as a coach, a teacher, and an administrator. He loved sports and enjoyed coaching football & softball at McEachern High School and West Cobb Girls Softball. Dave was a member of the Lion’s club for many years and is one of the oldest members of Dogwood Country Club. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf, watching UGA football, and most of all, coaching and attending his granddaughters’ softball games. Dave was a strong, caring, and patient man. He had a caring and giving heart which touched everyone who knew him. Dave had a humble way of leading by example, which set a positive example for many of the students and athletes under his tutelage. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather and his loving, generous nature will be forever missed.
