Kenneth William Crawley

Always a gentleman and a kind, God-loving soul, Kenneth William Crawley made his final journey on June 29, 2024, leaving us peacefully in his sleep. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him always laughed at his penchant for puns and his astonishing mind, which could remember just about anyone's birthday and even the date a top 40 song made the charts and how long it remained a hit. Most knew him for his love of music, especially for hymns, which began as a child and resulted in his work as a church organist most of his adult life. That was his true calling, but he worked as an actuary for The Hartford Insurance Company to help make his musical pursuits possible. Born on July 20, 1947, while his parents were vacationing with relatives in Boone, North Carolina, Kenneth grew up in Pennsylvania, New York and North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, where he majored in concert organ and minored in French, Italian, Latin, and German. His hobbies included a love of trivia, weather, geography, and travel. Even some who knew him were surprised to learn that he also loved to "cut a rug" as a ballroom dancer. While still mentally sharp, his physical body finally gave in to the ravages of Parkinson's Disease after several years. We are certain he is delighted to reunite with his parents, William Picot Crawley and Rachel Templeton Crawley, who proceeded him to Heaven in 2007 and 2010 (respectively). Surviving family members include his younger brother, Paul Louis Crawley and sister-in-law Lori Hartley Crawley of Marietta, GA; his younger sister, Carol Jean ("Jeanie") Crawley of Rock Hill, SC; his niece, Laura K. Proctor, her husband, Shawn, and their two daughters, Izzy and Rosie of Rock Hill, SC; his nephew, Nicholas Harison Crawley, wife Noelle and their two sons, Eli and Teddy of Goshen, IN; and his niece, Meredith Elise Crawley of Chicago, IL . His family will hold a memorial service for him in the near future, the time and location of which have yet to be determined. Instead of flowers, his family encourages donations to the American Parkinson Disease Association of Staten Island, New York.
