Marion Borgel

Marion Ruth Spangler Borgel, 85, of Marietta GA, beloved wife to the late Henry E. Borgel Jr., and loving mother, departed from this life on the evening of February 9, 2016. Marion was born on July 27, 1930 to the late George and Vergie Spangler in Spry, PA. Before her marriage to Henry, the love of her life, she was employed as a salesperson at the Bon Ton Department Store in York, PA and went on to pursue a short career as a Dental Assistant. Marion left the dental field when she and Henry started their family, for family was her priority. She lived in Marietta most of her life after moving there with Henry and their young, increasing family. While raising their seven children, Marion also found time for volunteering at the Red Cross, being an Assistant Girl Scout Leader and a Kennestone Hospital Volunteer. She was also active in various PTA's and a volunteer tutor at Westside Elementary. As a faithful member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Marion enjoyed singing in the choir and served on several committees, especially at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store in Kennesaw, aiding her church and local communities. When her children were older, she worked part-time as a Supply Teacher for the Marietta City Schools, as a Secretary for Camp Juliette Low, and then full time as a dental office Transcriptionist. Marion had a full life and thoroughly enjoyed attending and supporting the many activities of her children and grandchildren. She loved hosting family get togethers…pizza parties, 4th of July cookouts, Easter egg hunts. She was always ready to lend a helping hand, to listen and to give an encouraging word. Lunches and celebrations with her dear friends provided her with so much laughter and joy. Marion was preceded in death by Henry, her parents Edward and Vergie Spangler, her siblings Edward Spangler and Ivy Waltermyer, granddaughter Daina Hart and step-grandson Anthony Reed. She is survived by a large and extended family: brother-in-law Joseph and wife Peggy, sister-in-law Joanne Borgel. Daughter Melinda and husband Darrell Hart, grandchildren Jason and wife Kelli, Nichelle and husband Mark and great grandchild Jackson. Daughter Nancy and husband Alfred Bourgeois, grandchildren Emily, Alan and Christina with husband Bill Venturi, and great grandchildren Nathaniel, Gabrielle and Benjamin. Son David and wife Lee, and grandchildren Michael, Andrew, Caroline, Katherine, Sam and Halle. Son Thomas and wife Kelli, grandchildren Rachel and Spencer. Son Peter and wife Donna, grandchildren Cory, Dylan and Madison. Daughter Ann and Fred Reed. Daughter Susan and Orlando Orochena, Jr. She also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews. Marion (Mema) lived her life with an attitude of faith, perseverance, and thanksgiving. She loved and will be greatly missed by her family, friends, neighbors and all those who were touched by her kindness. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 25th at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Church Street in Marietta, with a prayer and Rosary service at 7:30 PM. The memorial Mass is to be held on Friday, February 26th at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Marietta at 10:00 AM, with a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Kennesaw or M.U.S.T Ministries.
