Thelma L. Price

Thelma Louise Rogers Price, 73, of Marietta, GA, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday January 25, 2015. She was born in Plains, GA, February 19, 1941, to the late, Retha Rogers and Eula Mae Range Rogers. Thelma graduated from Staley High School of Americus GA, she then moved to California where she received her degree in nursing from Valley College, started on the Coronary Care Unit, and then found love with Dialysis Nursing acute and chronic. Thelma went from scrubbing hospital floors to supervising them before her disability retirement. She believed in education, hard work, and determination. She loved to travel and fly, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren playing basketball and truly enjoyed seeing her granddaughter dance. Thelma was a huge baseball fan, managing and coaching many girls’ softball teams. She was a faithful Dodgers fan until she moved to the Atlanta area and had to become a Braves fan. She loved bowling, fishing, and bingo she enjoyed mentoring children and young adults. She joined Mount Paran North Church of God in 1998, was an active member serving on the care team welcoming visitors, delivering cookies, and volunteering as the Vacation Bible School Nurse and serving one year as children summer camp nurse. Thelma was diagnosed with Cancer in 2005; she fought a long hard battle before going home to be with our Lord. Thelma is survived by three children, Gary M. Price ,(daughter in law, Evette Price) of Plains Georgia, Kim L. Price Russell of Americus, Georgia, Helene D. Price of Marietta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Lynnette Price Carter, (grandson in law, Michael Carter) of Americus Georgia, Michael Lewis of Americus, Tysheena (Sheena) Price of Marietta, Georgia, Brandon Price Russell of Americus, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Deonte’ Cross, Brianna Carter and Brinyah Carter of Americus, Georgia; God Daughter, Priscilla Rouse Becker, in law (Robert Becker) of Ventura, California; nieces and nephews, Edna Mae Hollis of Plains, Georgia, Vernell Hollis of Americus, Georgia, Kathy Hollis Cross (Emerson Cross) of Plains, Georgia, Constance Hollis of Americus, Georgia; a host of great nieces and nephews; cousins, (Lee Lee) Eva L Maddox-Carswell (Gus Carwell) of Jacksonville, Florida, Katie Maddox of Americus, Estella Bloomfield of Ellaville, Georgia. Thelma was predeceased by her parents, Retha Rogers and Eula Mae Rogers of Plains, Georgia; two brothers, Willie Rogers of Decatur, Georgia, ST Rogers of Plains, Georgia; two sisters and one brother in law, Retha Mae Rogers Hollis (Edmond Hollis) of Plains, Georgia, Catherine Morgan of Hartford, Connecticut; nephews, George Hollis of Washington, Lamar Hollis of Massachusetts, Charles Hollis of Americus, Georgia, Thaddeus Hollis of Americus, Georgia; nieces, Lois Hollis of Plains, Georgia and Sherry Hollis of Americus, Georgia. Funeral Services will be held at Mount Paran North Church of God, 1700 Allgood Rd. Marietta, Georgia, 11:00 am, Sunday, January 30th, 2015. Family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. My first love of the Lord came early on, where she taught Sunday school classes as a teenager at Lebanon Baptist Church in Plains Georgia, one of the first scriptures she learned was the 23rd Psalm which remained her favorite throughout her life: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me besides still waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for you are with me, Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, You anoint my head with oil: My cup overflows. Surely your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
