Voyd Ethridge

Voyd Ethridge, 86, of Marietta, died Tuesday, December 24, 2024. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Macland Baptist Church in Powder Springs with Rev. Johnny Foster officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM on Monday prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow the service at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta with Rev. Richard Walker officiating. A faithful follower of Jesus Christ and member of Macland Baptist Church for 53 years, Mr. Ethridge graduated from the University of Alabama in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration and a commission in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. He worked for Woolworth’s, Firestone, and Lockheed Georgia where he was employed as a Product Support Specialist for 30 years. He ministered for 48 years as a deacon of Macland Baptist Church, serving as chairman multiple times. He also served in many other capacities including Sunday School teacher and member/chair of multiple committees through the years including Finance, Building, Nominating, and pastor search committees. A devoted sports fan, he was a season ticket holder for McEachern High School football, made multiple trips to Tuscaloosa for Alabama Crimson Tide home games, and endured the Braves, Hawks, and Falcons with great patience. An avid traveler, he and his wife Sue Ann visited national parks and places of interest in all 50 states. Favorite destinations included Hawaii, Alaska, and especially the Grand Canyon, which included riding the Bright Angel Trail mule train and rafting down the Colorado River for two weeks. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Ethridge Edwards, his son, David LeVoyd Ethridge (Janna) and three grandchildren, Johnathan Caleb Ethridge, Julianna Hope Ethridge, Emma Kate Ethridge; sister Cora Mae Foster of Birmingham, AL, and Betty Faye Kirkland of Hueytown, AL; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Sue Ann; his parents, Girley and Mertie Ethridge; siblings Christine Ethridge, Leveron Guthrie, Joy Ethridge, and Delilah Snow; and son-in-law, Jan A. Edwards II.
