Ann Brown

Ann Land Brown went to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 after an extended illness. She was surrounded by her family. Ann was 80 years old. She was born to Hubert and Carmen Martin in Alabama City, Alabama, on Aril 11, 1931. She was the youngest daughter in her family and had a sister, Jeanette Stevens of Mableton and a brother Hubert Martin of Dallas, all deceased. Ann married her high school sweetheart, Robert Jefferson (Bobby) Land on July 10, 1949, after graduation. They had four children, Susan, Stephanie, Sherri and Jeff Land, formerly of Austell. All of the family members now reside in Marietta. Ann and Bobby were married for 25 years, but Bobby passed away in August of 1974. Ann is survived by all of her children and family members. Susan Wright of Kennesaw, married to Cliff Wright and daughter Ashley. Stephanie Land, Sherri Sallinger and her two daughters, Jessica and Megann, and Jeff Land who has three children, Bobby, Erica, and Haley, all of Marietta. Ann is also survived by four nieces Gayle Johnson, Jeannie McDearmid, Debbie Dierkes and Melissa McClendon. Ann retired from Cobb General Hospital, now WellStar, in Austell as Secretary to the Director of Nursing. In 1979, Ann married former Cobb County Commissioner, Thomas H. Brown, and they were happily married for 31 years. Ann and Tommy were avid travelers and saw much of the world together. In January of 2010, Tommy passed away. As Mrs. Thomas Brown, Ann was part of the well-known Marietta Brown family, Sara Benson, Jack and Judy Brown, Don and Shirley Miller, Linda New, Judy Brown, Irene Brown and Sue Chapman. Ann’s step-daughter, Stephan, is married to Howie Cantor, of Vermont and they have 3 boys, Cavan, Noah, and Max. Ann Brown will be remembered for her great spirit, love of family, and deep abiding faith. Earlier in her life, Ann was active in the Austell community. She and several friends catered the Austell Rotary Club luncheon for many years and donated the money to the Austell Methodist Church. Ann was also involved in campaigning for several local politicians. She was renowned for her sewing and dress designing abilities. She was so talented that no pattern was required. Ann made dance costumes, prom dresses, homecoming outfits and even bathing suits. Her three girls were always considered “The Best Dressed” in school. Ann was also known for her culinary skills. She was the spokesperson for a Nationally Known Company, Perkinson Mill, a company that produced cornmeal and flour. Ann wrote the recipes on the packaging and made personal appearances did cooking demonstrations, marketing their recipes. She was featured as Perkinson’s “Perky Polly” which is equivalent to the “Pre-Paula Deen” of the South. Ann’s life revolved around her family - especially her grandchildren. They brought so much joy to her life and were with her frequently during her last year of illness. Their presence and love made Ann’s last days precious and full of loving memories. Ann and Tommy were active members of the McEachern Methodist Church and loved their Sunday School, The Came to Believe Class. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 6th at Mayes Ward in Marietta from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, followed by a service at 4:00 PM in the Chapel at Mayes Ward-Dobbins with Rev.
