Ann Daniel McLean

Ann Daniel McLean, of Marietta, Georgia, died peacefully on March 27, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born in Miami, Florida, on August 11, 1934, the daughter of Troy Emory Daniel and Ruth Eudelle Massey Daniel. Ann spent her early years in Miami before her family moved to Decatur, Georgia, in the 1940s when her father took a position with Otis Elevator. She had an outgoing and vivacious personality and attended North Druid Hills High School, where she was crowned Miss North Druid Hills her senior year. She attended Maryville College in Tennessee, where she was named Miss Maryville as a sophomore. She later transferred to Emory University and graduated in the spring of 1956 with a degree in elementary education. Ann met her future husband, William R. McLean, at a fall luncheon hosted by Glenn Memorial Methodist Church, where she and her family were longtime members. The couple married in June 1957. After her husband completed medical school, the couple moved to Akron, Ohio, and Oklahoma City while he trained in pediatrics. They later moved to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where he served in the Public Health Service near a local Indian reservation. In 1965, the McLean family settled in Marietta, Georgia, where Dr. McLean joined Marietta Pediatrics and later Wellstar Pediatrics, practicing until his retirement in 2005. Ann loved children deeply, and they were the center of her life. In addition to teaching elementary school early in her career and raising five children of her own, she and her husband started a foster care program in Cobb County with other members of St Paul Methodist church and fostered more than 70 children over the years and welcomed numerous international high school exchange students into their home. She also deeply invested herself in her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her table was always full—with children, laughter, and friends. Ann and her husband shared a love for travel and made friends everywhere they went. They enjoyed vacations in Florida, North Carolina, Hawaii, and Grand Cayman, generously inviting family to join whenever possible. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. William R. McLean; her brother and sister-in-law, Emory and Sally Daniel of Decatur, Georgia; her son-in-law, Blaine G. Ball III; and her granddaughter, Meagan Marie Ball Hortman. She is survived by her five children and their spouses: Elizabeth and Dave Street, Nancy Ball, Russell and Tamara McLean, Danny and Jill McLean, and Kathryn and Allen Morris. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her boundless love and generous spirit. Her loving smile and energetic spirit will be deeply missed.
