Annette Phillips Moore

Annette Phillips Moore, 91, of Marietta passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, February 24 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church in Marietta with Rev. Dean Hunter officiating. Parking for the service will be available at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home due to construction around the church. Family will greet guests beginning at noon Friday in the Chapel Parlor. Interment will take place at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta following the service Friday. Annette was born April 17,1931 in Shelby County, Alabama and was raised in Alexander City, Alabama. She is the youngest of six siblings. At the age of 13 she moved to Talladega, AL and graduated early from Talladega High School in 1948. Annette married her high school sweetheart, Andy, September 30, 1951. They immediately moved to California while he served in the Army. In March 1953 they moved to Auburn, AL. Annette worked as a secretary in the Agricultural Department at Auburn University until 1955. In December of that year Andy graduated, began employment with Lockheed Corporation and the two of them moved to Marietta. Annette and Andy joined Marietta First Baptist Church in January 1956. Annette worked at the church as secretary to the Minister of Education from 1956-1958. She also joined WMU, Sunday School, and lead the Girl’s Auxiliary. Volunteering at church was one of her passions. She served as vacation Bible school director, youth camp leader, and on various committees over the years. She helped in the English School and in the Welcome Center. One of her favorite groups was Cup of Kindness. In 1975 Annette began a 21-year career at West Side Elementary School, eighteen of them as secretary and the first three as an instructional aide. After retiring in 1996 she continued to work part time in Marietta City School System’s central office until 2008. Annette loved flowers, gardening, cooking, sewing, playing dominoes and canasta. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is predeceased by her husband, Andy Moore, her parents Onnie and Bertha Phillips, her sister Ruth Dison, and her brothers Calvin, Cleveland, and James Phillips. She is survived by 2 daughters, Jane Moore of Marietta, Andrea Lewis of Alpharetta and her husband Bret Lewis; grandson, Will Lewis of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Kendall Lewis of Jacksonville, FL and her sister, Essie Morgan of Fairfield, CT; as well as many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in loving memory to the First Baptist Church English School Fund, 148 Church Street., Marietta, GA 30060
