Azalee "Lee" Jansak

Mrs. Lee Threlkeld Jansak of Marietta went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, August 09, 2011, at age 92. Mrs. Jansak was born to Hattie Taylor and Arthur Threlkeld on December 17, 1918, in Elberton, GA. Brothers A.P. and Harry, and sister, Sara Evelyn preceded her in passing. Mrs. Jansak graduated from Anderson (SC) Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, after which she proudly served her country in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. As charge nurse with the 65th General Hospital, affiliated with Duke University Medical Center, she was stationed in England where she served with honor and distinction. Her wartime experiences, which she described as the most adventurous and character-building experience of her life, are chronicled in the book “Healers in World War II”. She also served for over 20 years as a civilian R.N. in the intensive care unit of the U.S. Army Hospital at Fort McPherson, GA, where her patients had the greatest of respect and love for her. Mrs. Jansak was married to Andrew “Andy” Jansak of Palmer, NY, for 52 years prior to his death in April 2002. They are the parents of three devoted children: Kristina, Ann, and Harry. Their three grandsons: Drew, Patrick, and Michael Nilan were the joy of their lives. Other relatives include Paul, Betty, James Paul, and Mark Threlkeld of Anderson, SC. She will live forever in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. She was the strength of her family, and demonstrated unlimited loving kindness as wife, mother, friend, and nurse. Gardening was her lifelong hobby, and she and Andy delighted in their flower and vegetable gardens. Her sweetness, quick wit, intensely strong will, vast wisdom, dignity, charm, and graciousness are cherished by all those whose lives she so richly blessed. She was a Christian Southern lady to the core of her being. Close to Mrs. Jansak’s heart were the ladies of the Phebean Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Marietta. Interment is planned for Friday, August 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Parkway in Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A memorial service will be held in the coming weeks. In lieu of floral arrangements, gifts in her honor may be sent to First Baptist Church of Marietta, 148 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060.
