Bernard Francis Pannell

Harry Pannell and Geraldine Francis gifted the world with the birth of Bernard Francis Pannell on March 7, 1936, who was nurtured and raised in Harlem, New York. Bernard was educated in the New York City Public School System, where he graduated and later commenced to serve his country by joining the United States Armed Forces. Affectionately referred to as “Bernie” by friends and coworkers, Bernard’s introduction to the New York City workforce was with the Julius Korn Lingerie Company in the garment district. Later upon seeking better employment opportunities, he became a “Letter Carrier” with the United States Postal Service in Bronx County. Subsequently, he was employed with The New York City Transit Authority as a “Conductor” and later advanced to the position of “Motorman”, being responsible for transporting millions of patrons within New York City’s railway system. Bernard loved and spoke fondly of all his positions and enjoying lifelong relationships with many of his colleagues well after retirement. Once retired, Bernard enjoyed visiting the beaches of the world through international travel, domestic road trips, fine wine, and concerts; all while being able to enjoy the upwardly mobile transition in his beloved Harlem, community. He was connoisseur of various musical genres and spent much of his time listening to his favorite Jazz and R& B artists. Upon his marriage to Jessie Mae Medlock, Bernard became a loving father to Monique D. Cable and April K. Archie, with this relationship lasting for his lifetime. He is proceeded in death by parents Harry Pannell and Geraldine Francis, his sister Leona Jiles and grandmother Lattie Francis. To mourn his passing, he leaves daughters, Monique Cable and April Archie, son in law John Cable Jr., sisters: Amelia, Sylvia, Harriet, and Joyce all of New York City, 5 grandchildren , John Cable III, Dylon Maurice Ross II, Mandela Arrington Ross, Arriana Abdur-Rahim, and McKenzie Archie, nephews Andrew and Preston of California and New York respectively; as well as a host of close ties within the Arrington, Mitchell and Wiggins families; notably Mozella Richardson- Kamara, Khadeeja Richardson, Novel Richardson and Ayana Richardson. Bernard as father, friend and family member was characterized by his big smile, his huge, loving heart of gold and his generous spirit. He was the consummate giver to numerous charities and always willing to help others in any way possible. We are saddened by our loss, but we must take refuge in the fact that he now rests in the bosom of God. May he rest in peace. Respectfully submitted by the Family
