Bobbie Jeane Palmer Day

Bobbie Jeane Palmer Day, 85, of Woodstock, GA, died on January 28, 2018, at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain. Born in Elizabethtown, TN, Bobbie spent her youth in Halls and Dyersburg, TN, graduating from Halls High School in 1950. She studied music at Union University in Jackson, TN, where she met and later married Kenneth Day, her husband of nearly 67 years. After raising three children, Bobbie returned to college and earned an Associate of Science degree in Nursing at Kennesaw Junior College (1973) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Georgia State University (1978). With the heart of a caregiver, she practiced nursing at Kennestone Hospital and Georgia Baptist Medical Center until her retirement in 1992. Active in church communities throughout her life, Bobbie was involved with the Women's Missionary Union, taught Sunday School and directed children's choirs, and sometimes played the organ or piano during service. Music was important at home, too, with her own children and through piano lessons for others. Bobbie was an avid gardener and lover of nature, spending many hours just watching wildlife. An accomplished painter and illustrator, she also used her creative talents sewing and quilting. Bobbie was preceded in death by her mother, Juanita Jimerson; father, Samuel P. Palmer; and brother, Sammy Palmer. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Day; daughters Debbie Day Peck (Bill) and Dawn Day Boyd (Delen); and son Kenneth Day Jr. (Nina). Affectionately known as "Bob-Bob," her legacy includes seven grandchildren: Benjamin Boyd (Marion); Jeremy Raines (Rebecca); William Boyd; Chip Day; Saradawn Stewart (Scott); Crissie Sisson; Tony Montanaro (Alison); and four great-grandchildren: Everett and Miles Boyd, and Dayton and Harper Sisson. She is also survived by her brother, Mike Palmer (Brenda). The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, at First Baptist Church Marietta, followed by interment at Georgia Memorial Park, Marietta. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First Baptist Church Marietta or Mercer University School of Theology.
