Brendan Casey Young

Brendan Casey Young, age 24, of Kennesaw, passed away June 11, 2017. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will be a private graveside service at Georgia National Cemetery. Brendan graduated from Kennesaw Mountain High School in 2011. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 2, 2012 and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on May 29, 2012. He graduated from Parris Island on August 24, 2012. On September 11, 2012, he reported to the School of Infantry in Camp Geiger, North Carolina. While training, he constantly set the example for all his fellow Marines to emulate. He was mature beyond his age and consistently maintained a high level of motivation and a work ethic rarely matched by entry level Marines. He was named as the Honor Graduate of the School of Infantry. He went on to be ordered for duty with Third Battalion, Third Marine Regiment, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. He served deployments to Australia (including Tonga) and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged after completing his service and was in the Marine Corps Reserves. Brendan had completed his first year of college at North Georgia Technical College and was about to transfer and begin his second year of college at Kennesaw State University in the fall of 2017. From the time Brendan was a young boy and throughout his life, he never met a stranger. He enjoyed meeting and talking to new people. He loved an adventure and was always curious. He was not afraid to speak his mind or to have a different opinion from everyone else. Brendan enjoyed camping and hiking. He also loved going to the lake and boating, jet skiing, and swimming. Brendan lived life to the fullest. He was full of energy. He was fearless. He often said “living is cool.”” He always set out to make the most of life. Brendan was always true to his values. When he committed to something, he did so with his whole heart and soul. He was always inquisitive and researching to gain more knowledge about the world. He never took anything at face value, but questioned everything and did his own research to find out the truth. Brendan always said one person can make a difference. He wanted to make a difference in the world to make it better. And there is no doubt that he did and that he would have continued to do so. A beautiful and bright shining light, a caring and loving soul, gone too soon. We love you so much. You will always be in our hearts and forever missed. Semper Fi.
