Burton "Bud" McLain

Burton (Bud) McLain passed away May 15, 2009 in Marietta, GA after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Chapel in Marietta with the Rev. Claude Smithmier officiating. Burial will follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery, Acworth, Georgia. He was born March 25, 1937 in Emerson, GA, the son of Pascal C. McLain Sr. and Bertie P. Lovinggood McLain. He grew up in Acworth, GA. He graduated from Acworth High School and attended Oxford College of Emory University and the University of Georgia. Bud married Ruth Misulonas in 1978 whom he loved and cared for the rest of his life. He worked for Lockheed in Marietta, GA and Sunnyvale, CA for 14 years. He joined the Marietta Police Department in 1973, where he worked as an officer for 28 years until his retirement in 1999 with the rank of First Lieutenant, including 9 years on the Marietta Cobb Smyrna Narcotics squad. Bud loved his children and grandchildren and showed his love by the faithful way he cared for them. He also had a special love for the outdoors, both locally in Georgia and in the western Rocky Mountains. He loved to hunt for and observe all kinds of wildlife in their natural habitat. He enjoyed these outdoors activities with special friends and family members who shared his love for nature. He also enjoyed western movies and wildlife television. Bud was known as one who took the time to do everything right. He enjoyed working with his hands - in the yard, and around the house and took pride in the work he did. He will be remembered by family, friends and work associates as a person of honesty and integrity who did his duty, kept his word and enjoyed life. Bud is preceded in death by his sister, Gwendolyn in 1938, brother, Donald in 1996, father, Pascal McLain in 2007, and mother Bertie McLain in 2009. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, brother, Pascal McLain, sister, Betty (Bill) Thurston, daughter, Debbie (Don) Sadler from his marriage to Betty Hood Bowers in 1959, daughter, Maureen (Casey) Patrick and grandchildren Donny Sadler, Casey Patrick, and Sean Patrick.
