Carolyn Grant Hanf

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of Carolyn (Hyde) Grant Hanf (August 25, 1934 – January 17, 2025) of Roswell, Georgia. She was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and went to Washington, D.C. to work for Senator John Sparkman after attending the University of Alabama. While in Washington, D.C., she met her future husband, Peter. They married in 1958 and then in 1960, she and Peter moved to Doraville and then to Marietta, where they raised their two daughters. Her activities involved historical and art museums, civic organizations and leading a Girl Scouts troop. She enjoyed diverse activities including swimming, bowling, tennis, playing card games and reading a good mystery. Carolyn loved to dance whether it was square dancing or ballroom. To her friends, she was known as a cut up and always enjoyed a good joke and her laugh was infectious. Many will attest to her southern charm even when she corrected you. As an accomplished seamstress, she made many beautiful outfits for herself and her daughters. Carolyn and Peter had several opportunities to travel, but her most memorable destination was England and Scotland. She was passionate about preserving her country’s history and was heavily involved in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) beginning in 1975. Her involvement included holding a number of local chapter, state and national offices over the years. While in the DAR, she cherished her visits to Washington, D.C. and made many close friends over the years. As a member of the Methodist faith, she was actively involved in church from teaching Sunday School to serving on administrative boards. Carolyn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, Peter Stewart Hanf; two daughters, Linda Hanf Robinson (Greg) and Hayley Hanf Bradt (Michael), 5 grandchildren, Alex Robinson (Mande), Rebekah Robinson Carizzo (Alberto), Elizabeth Robinson Ocampo (Gabriel), Chase Bradt (Ulany), Cameron Bradt and 3 great-grandchildren, Nathan, Levi and Lila Robinson. She was loved by all and will be missed greatly. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Daughters of the American Revolution at https://www.dar.org/giving/ways-give/donate-online or by mail to Daughters of the American Revolution; 1776 D Street NW; Washington, D.C. 20006. The memorial service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Mayes-Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in the Historic Marietta Chapel. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00am. Live stream will be available for those who cannot attend in person.
