Charles 'Bill' William Louree

Charles William “Bill” Louree, 86, of Dallas, GA, entered into his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from complications following a hip fracture. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Service and Reception on Monday, February 20, 2023 at 12:00pm at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church St, Marietta, GA 30060. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to a cause dear Bill: Disabled American Veterans www.dav.org or Unbound www.unbound.org. Bill was born in Tulsa, OK on September 12, 1936, to Charles Harold Louree and Adele Regina Ure, both of St. Louis MO. The love of his life was Carol Regina Hintz Louree (1940-2020) of New Orleans LA, to whom he was married for 54 years. Two of Bill’s favorite pastimes were studying the family genealogy and reading world history and current events. In his later life he lovingly wrote his life story to leave a record for his grandchildren. While growing up in New Orleans, Bill attended St. Agnes School and was an altar server for daily mass, funerals and weddings. Bill’s family raised chickens and turkeys and for a Cub Scout project he planted a vegetable garden in his backyard. He rode a bus 45 minutes to the city library on Saturday afternoons, where he would select a half dozen books, including Hardy Boys mysteries and books about American presidents. This was the start of his life long interest in history. Saturday evenings were often spent at the local movie theater, where Bill could buy a ticket for 15 cents and popcorn and a soda for a dime. Other favorite pastimes included counting boxcars along the nearby railroad, listening to mystery stories and baseball games on his Emerson radio, watching early black and white westerns on TV at a neighbor’s house and attending baseball games with his paternal grandfather, Daniel Edward Louree, at Sportman’s Park in St. Louis. Bill attended St. Aloysius HS where he placed 2nd in his weight class in the Louisiana State high school wrestling championship. He also played baseball and basketball and earned his Eagle Scout rank. He worked at the family travel agency in high school and while attending Loyola University of New Orleans. Bill served as president of the Loyola Thespian Society, where he met Carol when she toured campus as a prospective student. They once played the roles of the twins in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and later married at Incarnate Word Church in 1965. Bill graduated from his father’s alma mater, Washington University in St. Louis, with a B.A. in American History. He later served in the U.S. Army as an infantryman and marksman, and in the National Guard. Bill’s professional career as an executive with the Boy Scouts of America spanned 35 years, in which he moved 7 times throughout 5 states. He was known for successfully growing memberships, developing programs, and serving the many volunteers who made Scouting a success in their communities. A proud moment for his family was when Bill received the Bronze Pelican Award at St. Patrick Cathedral in Fort Worth. In 1987, as a subject matter expert, he was the first recruit selected to start up a new service at the National BSA Office designed to serve council offices with computer information systems and software support. After retirement, Bill was instrumental in helping to reorganize the Boys & Girls Club of North Central Texas, acted in a play at the Greater Lewisville Community Center, joined the Knights of Columbus at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, volunteered with Carol supporting Marriage Encounter weekends, dabbled in nature photography, and used his woodworking skills to craft toys for his grandchildren. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, his brothers Robert & John; his sister, Mary Lucille Fasullo; & his daughter-in-law, Margaret Ellen Gladbach Louree of Kansas City KS. Bill is survived by his 3 children, Peter Vernon Louree of Rogers AR, Charlotte Regina (Paulo) Esquivel of San Diego CA & Nellie Jo (Mattias) Ingersoll of Kennesaw GA; his 4 nephews Sean Joseph Hintz of Shreveport, LA, James Vernon Hintz III, of Houston TX, Gerard John Fasullo Jr. of Metairie LA, Larry Louree of Palmetto FL; & 5 nieces Marisa Hintz Guillie of Metairie LA, Mary Adele Fasullo Bravo of Durham NC, Emily Wade Toti of Orinda, CA, Patti Louree Somers of Oviedo FL, Martha Louree McCarthy of Lake Mary FL; his 8 grandchildren, Robert, Maisy (spouse Mark Williams), Charlie, Thomas, Cassidy, Alessandra, Colette, Louisa, & 2 great-grandchildren, Benedict & Lucia. The family wishes to thank the compassionate caregivers from ComforCare Home Care in Hiram, the wonderful nurses & nursing assistants at Wellstar Paulding Hospital and Wellstar Hospice and the dedicated, uplifting staff of Creekside Pines Retirement Community where Bill and Carol spent several happy years together and James Southerland of Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home for his constant support during this difficult time.
