Charles Monroe Spivey

Charles “Chuck” Monroe Spivey, 89, of Marietta passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday November 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in the Historic Marietta Chapel. The family will receive friends at 12:30 (one hour prior to the service). Chuck was born in Vidette, GA to John and Katie Spivey, Sr. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1949 and later graduated from West Georgia College. While in High School, Chuck worked for his father at their family-owned gas station in Austell, GA. In 1951, joined the United States Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class (PO1) and was enlisted until 1955. Chuck started his professional career as the owner of Spivey’s Q Club in Austell, GA. Then from the 1960’s until 1971, he worked for Lockheed Martin as a Vendor Liaison and Program Coordinator. In 1977, he opened S & H Construction in Austell, GA. Then in 1987, he opened Custom House Professional Remodelers. In 2006, following retirement, he launched Georgia Connect, a mission to partner international communities in North America and Georgia (the country). Major accomplishments included assisting low-income citizens that were internally displaced by wars that took place in 1990’s. These citizens were provided vocational training, socio-economic development, and self-development. In addition, he worked with a multiple, low-income schools to provide families with technical and organizational development as well as introducing out-of-class programs and activities. Chuck truly loved Georgia and their citizens and later engaged Marietta First United Methodist Church in these projects to ensure sustainability of the partnerships and efforts long-term. They’ve made multiple mission trips to Georgia to support the initiatives. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, John and Jean Spivey, Jr.; and his grandson, Anthony Massaro. Chuck is survived by the love of his life for over 30 years, Mary Leah; his children; three daughters, Tammy and Robert Bennett, Laura and Joe Massaro, and Stacy and Darren Townsend, and his son Christopher Spivey. In addition, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
