Cindy Coleman

Cindy Coleman, 56, of Atlanta passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Powder Springs. Cindy was raised in South DeKalb and in Douglasville Georgia. She graduated from West Georgia College in 1981 with a BBA in Accounting. She passed the CPA exam and attained her CPA license in 1989. She also attended the University of Georgia Lumpkin School of Law, where she excelled. She graduated in 1989, cum laude. In Law School, she was a finalist in the First Year Russell Moot Court Competition, arguing before a full panel of the Georgia Court of Appeals. She participated in the Moot Court Program and the Mock Trial Program while at Georgia, and won many awards, including 1st place in the ABA Law Student Division, National Appellate Advocacy Competition and Finalist in the 1988 Fall Mock Trial Competition at Georgia. She also acted as coach for law students in moot court and mock trial. She was inducted into the Order of the Barristers for her work. Upon graduation, Cindy passed the Georgia Bar Exam and was admitted to practice law in Georgia. However, her first love was accounting and she practiced, in partnership or solo practice, for over 30 years, focusing chiefly on audits of Georgia Credit Unions throughout the state. From 1995 until shortly before her disability due to health issues she owned and operated Cynthia L. Coleman, CPA, P.C. She was a tireless worker and put in many long nights of work. She earned the respect and admiration of many high-level credit union officials for her perceptive and knowledgeable accounting advice, and helped guide many credit unions for many years to accounting excellence. Cindy was the beloved wife of Ron Coleman, and together with Ron traveled as often as she could. Despite health problems that ultimately claimed her life she was able to travel to over 25 foreign countries, including Tanzania, China, Cuba, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Great Britain, Tahiti, Bonaire, Hong Kong, Belize, and many others. She was happy in a knock-off market in Beijing, in a land rover on the Serengeti, on a roller coaster in California, watching a sunset off Waikiki or scuba diving on the beautiful reefs of Cozumel. When her kidneys failed in 2006 Cindy was the grateful recipient of a kidney donor who through his generosity gave her over 8 years of freedom from dialysis and the chance to live and travel more. When her transplant failed in 2016 she traveled to the extent possible, including the Sundance Film Festival in 2017. Cindy was a great “mom” to her dogs over the years- Bismarck, Blitzkrieg, Buster, Belle, Bacchus, Bustle, Beamer and Banzai. They brought her much enjoyment, and even in her final hours she took noticeable pleasure in petting them. She loved the Disney parks and old movies. She was an expert scuba diver. She enjoyed computers and taught herself how to use them for her accounting practice when they first came into use in that regard. Despite many illnesses Cindy fought to the end. She unfailingly gave her husband love, support and affection until the end. She laughed at his jokes, read books he recommended, put up with his grousing and made sure he did not bankrupt himself with his spendthrift ways. She will be forever missed by her friends and family, and most of all by her husband, who benefitted from her love over nearly 32 years of marriage.
