Comer Jones, 78, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on October 27, 2020 in Marietta, GA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Powder Springs in Powder Springs, GA. and streamed live at https://www.fbcps.org/funeral/ with Rev. Mike Woods officiating. The interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta, GA. Comer is survived by his loving wife, Joanne Jones of Powder Springs, GA.; his son, Stuart Jones (Wendy) of Powder Springs, GA.; his daughter-in-law Whitney Jones of Dallas, GA.; his grandchildren, Matthew Jones (Sarah) of Lithia Springs, GA., Eric Jones of Powder Springs, GA., Adam Jones of Kissimmee, FL., and Carter Jones of Dallas GA.; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Jones and Alexander Jones; his brother Dwight Jones; and his sister Lorraine Hendrix. He is preceded in death by his son Steven Jones, sister Glenda Toney, and his parents Carter & Louise Jones. Comer graduated from Southwest High School in Atlanta, GA. and remained active in reunion planning over the years. After high school, he went on to receive his associates degree in accounting from Chattahoochee Tech. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Powder Springs for over 35 years and was a part of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. He started the Upward Basketball program at the church as well as served as a deacon. He played the handbells and was in the Sanctuary Choir and the Happy Hearts choir. He loved building sets for Vacation Bible School and was Co-Chair of the Church Decorating Committee alongside his wife. He also played a large part in his community by working as a poll manager during elections. He was an avid football fan and was a UGA season ticket holder. He was a regular attendee at McEachern High School’s football and soccer games and was involved in many Theater and Fine Arts productions at the high school as well. Comer worked for and retired from Cobb County where he held many positions during his tenure. He was always reliable and had a servant’s attitude. In his retirement, Comer enjoyed time with his family and walks with his dog, Bradley. He could be found thrifting with his sisters, going on family vacations or swimming at the aquatic center. Family was his priority, and he cherished every moment he had with them. He was loved by many and his presence will be greatly missed. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020 between the hours of 5:00 PM & 8:00 PM at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs.
