Dave Lyjak

Dave Lyjak, 60, of Marietta died Thursday, August 6, 2015. A Memorial Service will be held 7:30 pm Thursday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Marietta with Rev. Beth Birkholz and Rev. Ron Grunke officiating. David Robert Lyjak was born on December 8, 1954 in Ann Arbor Michigan to Robert Fred Lyjak and Lorraine Elizabeth Lyjak. He was the oldest of the three brothers. He grew up sharing his father’s love of flying, and his mother’s love of people. He got his pilot’s license when he was 17. He graduated from the University of Michigan in late 1978 with a BS in Computer and Communication Science. After graduating, he moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he met his wife, Leigh. They were married in March of 1980. They had their first child, Matthew, in October of 1985. Their youngest son, Michael, was born in 1989. Dave held onto the things he loved throughout his entire life, and he shared that love and happiness he got from those things with the people around him. His love of flying never left him. He would take any one up into the air as long as he had a working plane and they had the stomach for it. He was musically gifted, and he would share that gift by singing in the choir at church or playing various instruments for whoever was around to listen. He graduated from being a campground cook to the family chef. His recipes became favorites among family and friends as long as they could handle a little heat. The outdoors was where he felt most at home. He loved being away from all the wires and electronics that his career entailed. The outdoors was his escape, but he wanted to escape with others. He had so many different interests that made him compelling to so many people, and the pleasure in his life was the people he worked with while doing the activities he enjoyed. This joy made it easy for him to give freely of his time, energy, and knowledge. His giving spirit made people’s interest turn into love when they got to spend time with him. Dave touched a lot of people’s hearts in different ways. He was always trying to make things better. Survivors include his wife, Leigh Lyjak; two sons, Matthew and Michael Lyjak; two brothers, Jeffrey and Christopher Lyjak. Contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Sunday Music Ministry and Holy Trinity Family Camping Ministry. Family will receive friends at a reception after the service at the church.
