Dewayne David Morris

Dewayne David Morris was born on February 27, 1962, in Pensacola, Florida, to Otis and Alice Morris. He was one of four children — two brothers, Steve (deceased) and Paul, and one sister, Belinda. He later relocated to Georgia because his father was stationed in Atlanta. Dewayne dedicated his entire adult life to public service through Cobb County Government. He began his law enforcement career at Powder Springs Police Department and later joined the Cobb County Police Department in 1982. He served in numerous divisions, including Uniform Patrol, Investigations, Special Operations, and the Motor Unit, where he was proudly known as Motor 8. Over the years, he also served as a STEP Investigator, Homicide Detective, Commander of the Bomb Investigation, and as part of the Director’s staff. He received two awards for Meritorious Service. In 2010, Dewayne met the love of his life, Becky Conley, at the Cobb County Courthouse. After their first lunch together, they became inseparable. The two were married on June 23, 2012. Dewayne retired from the police department as a Sergeant on January 17, 2014. After retiring from Cobb PD, he served as a School Resource Officer for Cobb County School District Police, followed by a short time working with Baldwin Paving and working as a self employed security consultant through his own company, Cobb Off Duty Officers, LLC. In 2020, he began a new chapter in his career as a Lieutenant Colonel in Support Services at the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office. Dewayne loved policing — it was more than a job; it was his calling. Even after becoming a Lieutenant Colonel, he could often be found working an incident or writing a traffic ticket from his well-used ticketbook. He also had a passion for fast cars, Diet Mountain Dew, Little Debbie cakes, part-time work, and Winston Light cigarettes. A true Atlanta sports fan, he especially loved the Braves and the Hawks. He was also a sneaker enthusiast — on the day he passed, a brand-new pair of custom Nike Air Force Ones by Dewayne arrived in the mail. Though he could seem gruff at times, Dewayne was truly a teddy bear who deeply loved his friends. Most of all, he loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Alice Morris, and his brother, Steve Morris. He leaves behind his brother, Paul Morris (Karen); his sister, Belinda Kimsey (Kevin); his beloved wife, Becky Morris; his three children, Jessica Conley, Ryan Conley (Heather), and David Morris; four grandchildren, Baileigh, Gracie, Sadie, and Sophie, and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Lainey, Colson, and Callie. Dewayne never met a stranger. A true hero, his legacy of dedication, love, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him
