Donald Buren King

Donald Buren King, longtime Cobb real estate broker and business owner, died Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 69. A Marietta native, King was born May 20, 1939, the son of Buren B. King, a founder and partner of Jackson & King, Inc., the oldest real estate business still in operation in Cobb County, and Essie Brown King, a member of one of Cobb’s pioneer families. He attended Marietta and Cobb County schools and graduated with honors from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business. He was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity and the UGA Dixie Redcoat Band. He served six years with the Georgia Air National Guard. Active in several civic and professional groups, he served as president of the Metro Marietta Kiwanis Club and was a charter member of the Marietta Metro Rotary Club. He was appointed to the Georgia Real Estate Commission in 1973 by then Governor Jimmy Carter. He was active in the Georgia and Cobb Board of Realtors, serving as a founding member of and later as president of the latter organization in 1977. He participated in numerous programs focusing on the real estate industry. King began his career in 1961 when the real estate business was an emerging force in Cobb’s phenomenal growth. He was president and broker of Jackson & King, as well as a member of the Real Estate Appraisers Board. Jackson & King was a founding member of First MLS. Survivors include a son, Russell D. King, daughter, Anna King Norris, both of Marietta; grandsons, Nash King, Branch King, Zachariah Norris; granddaughter, Rebecca Norris, all of Marietta; Scott H’Doubler, brothers and sisters-in-law, H. Leon and Betty King, Jerry N. and Gloria King; sister, Betty King McCreary and sister-in-law, Carol Ann King, all of Marietta; nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Thursday, November 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held Friday, November 7 at 4 p.m. at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home Chapel.
