Doris Carolyn Combs, 88, of Marietta, GA passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023. A Funeral Service will be held in her honor on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 10:00 AM at Mayes Ward Dobbins Macland Chapel with Pastor Chris Freeman officiating. Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband William T. Combs, Sr. at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Marietta, GA following the service. Doris is survived by her sons, Ted Combs & wife Joni of Dallas, GA., Jeff Combs & wife Paula of Dallas, GA, and Carl Combs & wife Mac of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Tina Chandler & husband William of Dallas, GA; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William T. Combs, Sr., son, William T. Combs, Jr. and daughter, Joyce Weaver. Doris Carolyn Taylor Combs was born Sunday, July 14, 1935, in Marietta, GA to Earnest & Bessie Mae Taylor. She graduated from Marietta High School with the class of 1952. She married the love of her life and best friend, William T. Combs, Sr., and they had 32 wonderful years together until his passing in 1989. Doris worked briefly as a stenographer at the Cobb County courthouse and when she and William began their family, she decided to stop work to stay at home and raise the children and manage the household. Doris had a close personal relationship with God, and she was a lifetime member of the First united Methodist Church of Marietta. Doris was also a volunteer at the East Paulding Middle School for many years. She enjoyed flowers and working in the garden. Doris loved animals and always enjoyed watching the birds while sitting on her front porch and spending time outdoors. Doris was a huge Atlanta Braves fan and loved watching the games on television. Doris had a warm and loving presence about her. She loved people and genuinely cared about them. If you were a stranger when you met Doris, you were her friend by the end of your conversation. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Most of all, however, Doris loved her family. She enjoyed looking after and caring for them. Nothing meant more to her than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her presence will be forever missed. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2023, between the hours of 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Mayes Ward Dobbins Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, GA.
