Doris Trezevant Gignilliat

Ms. Doris Gignilliat died peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones, in the early morning of May 18, 2014. Ms. Gignilliat was born on January 14, 1925, in Alamo, Georgia, to Alma and John T. Gignilliat. She was the eldest of three daughters. She was a loving mother of five daughters from her twenty-five year marriage to Dr. J.C. Tanner. She is preceded in death by the great love and companion of her later-life, Robert (Bob) Nagle, sister Carole Gignilliat Jackson and granddaughter Paige Etheridge Tanner. She is survived by her sister Elaine Gignilliat, daughters Carole Fallon, Dianne Garber, Susan Tanner, Patricia Tanner and Jane Horner; sons-in-law Jeffrey Fallon, David Palmer and Drew Horner; grandchildren Leah Fallon, Katherine Fallon, Scott Garber, Melanie McLean, Andrew Horner, Allison Horner and James Tanner; and great-grandchildren Jack and Owen Garber. Ms. Gignilliat was a world-traveler, planning and enjoying tours of far-away places, often including family and friends. She traveled to six of the seven continents and visited nearly every country she wished to see. In her youth, Ms. Gignilliat was a “smile-girl” at the Fox Theatre, where she welcomed theatre-goers with her radiant smile and cheerful personality. She met her future-husband, J.C., while working there. She was a sincere believer that there is no better way to spend an afternoon than a ladies' luncheon, particularly one at the Swan Coach House. Especially proud of her French Huguenot heritage, Ms. Gignilliat enjoyed researching her genealogy, traveling to Charleston, South Carolina, to explore her ancestors' impact on the city. More than anything, she was the most dependable and loving mother, going to the ends of the earth for her girls. She amazed her family and friends with the amount of love she was able to give. She was the ultimate advisor, mentor, confidant, home-maker and friend. Ms. Gignilliat was a beautiful person with a heart-warming smile, and she will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Our family would like to express our deep and sincere appreciation to Pat Lockhart, Arethia Harrison and Vannesta Cox for their kind and competent care of our mother over the years. A graveside memorial service for family and close-friends will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, May 20th, 2014, at 2 PM.
