Dr. Evans "Evie" John Nichols

Evans (Evie) John Nichols, MD Evans (Evie) John Nichols, 82, of Marietta/Kennesaw passed away on August 9, 2015 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Hospice. Evans was born on October 31, 1932, in Savannah, GA to John & Catherine (Stelianos) Nichols. He was the youngest of four brothers (Nick, Stellgis, George, Evans). He attended Savannah High School where he met his wife, Dee (Despina) Paulson Nichols. The high school sweethearts were married June 10, 1956 at St Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, Savannah, GA. Evans received an Associates degree in Biology from Armstrong Community College, and continued onto Emory University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Following, he attended the Medical College of Georgia, and interned at Macon Hospital. Upon completion of his medical education, Evans enlisted and served as Captain in the US Navy at Camp LeJeune, NC as a Navy physician. He later did his residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Augusta Hospital. He and Dee moved their family to Marietta in 1963 where he joined a private OB-GYN practice. He delivered over 3500 babies at Kennestone Hospital. He was a very caring and compassionate physician and his patients adored him. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Cobb County Medical Association and American College of OB-GYN. He also served two terms as Chief of Staff at Kennestone Hospital. He retired in 1989. Evans loved dogs, the outdoors, fly fishing, deep sea fishing, hunting, flying as a small plane pilot, woodworking, cooking, gardening, classical music, ice cream & popcorn. His witty and dry sense of humor always made people laugh. A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 59 years Dee (Paulson) Nichols, his daughter Mary (Alex) Miltiades, sons Chris (Anthea Tissura) Nichols and Marc (Lee Evans) Nichols and son-in-law Pete Moraitakis. Also by grandchildren Charles (Jennie Seay) Miltiades, Stephen (Maria Moreno) Miltiades, Andrew Miltiades, Costa Moraitakis, Peter Moraitakis, Catherine Moraitakis, Eli Nichols, Angelo Nichols, Eleni Nichols, Evans Nichols, Ensley Nichols and great grandchildren, Caroline, Leo & Katina Miltiades (Charles) and Alaina, Alex & Bethany Miltiades (Stephen) and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Nichols Moraitakis, his parents John & Catherine Nichols and his brothers Nick Nichols, Stellgis Nichols and George Nichols. Visitation at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, 180 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060 on Monday, August 10, 2015 from 6 to 8 pm with Trisaigion Prayer Service at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 11 am at Holy Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 3431 Trickum Rd, Marietta, GA 30066, where he was a founding member. Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons.
