Dr. Robert K. Sigman

Robert K. Sigman June 15, 1941-Febuary 26, 2014 Senior Research Engineer Emeritus-Rocket Scientist Robert “Bob” Kirkland Sigman was born on June 15, 1941 to Sarah Elizabeth and Edmund B. Sigman in Coral Gables, FL. He graduated from Coral Gables High School in 1959 and headed to Atlanta, GA to attend Georgia Institute of Technology where he majored in Aerospace Engineering. While working on his undergraduate degree he was a member of the GT Swim Team. He continued his studies and received his MS and Ph.D. He served one year as a Post Doctoral student and joined the Aerospace Engineering General Faculty and worked there until retirement in December of 2000. He was a Sr. Research Engineer where his entire career was spent working on combustion and propulsion research projects. He assisted Graduate and Ph.D students working on research for their thesis as well as assisting Professor Ed Price with research in addition to lots of research on his own. He was a very published researcher and well respected by his peers in the field of combustion and propulsion. A highlight in retirement were calls from NASA in Huntsville, AL from a research group working on a moon shot and wanted to talk to him about research articles he had written. Bob has been married to D. Juanita Sigman for 23 years and has been the stepfather to four children, 10 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He is also survived cousins and a brother, Michael Sigman. During those 23 years Bob and Juanita have kept busy with family events and activities such as hobbies and volunteer work. They kept a busy pace with several trips to Europe and lots of travels in the US. Bob started building models when he was 10 years old and continued until he became ill. His involvement with IPMS (International Plastic Modelers Society) has kept him super busy and he loved every minute of it. He was a racing enthusiast and was a corner worker at Road Atlanta for several years. He traveled to France with friends twice to attend the Le Mans Race. Bob had a keen interest in history and read constantly, sometimes as many as 4 books at a time. He was a caring and giving person who helped many people in need and would work in anyway possible to make other peoples lives better. He will be missed by his family and friends.
